Sam A. Buckman, age 64, of Shelbina, passed away Friday, October 16, 2009, at 4:40 p.m. at his home in Shelbina.
He was born August 10, 1945, in Hannibal, the son of Otis William and Frances Genevieve Jarboe Buckman. On June 20, 1970, he was united in marriage to Nell Jean Magruder in Shelbina. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Nell, he is survived by three children: Matt Buckman and wife, Amanda, Mike Buckman and wife, Kim, and Martin Buckman, all of Shelbina; three grandchildren, Samuel Allen Buckman, Dalton Lane Buckman and Shelby Jeanette Buckman; three sisters, Veronica Gander, Philadelphia, MO, Madge Riley of Hallsville, and Jane Hightower of Kingfisher, OK; and one brother, Jim Buckman of Columbia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Guy Buckman.
Mr. Buckman was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina and a 1963 graduate of Shelbina High School. He was enrolled for several years in Law Enforcement Classes and served in the United States Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. He was a Policeman for the City of Shelbina for 12 years. He was a member of Shelbina American Legion, Northeast Missouri Old Threshers, and served as a Shelby County Deputy. He served as Presiding Commissioner for Shelby County for eight years, a contractor for the Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake, and a truck driver for O'Laughlin's Inc. Sam fulfilled several of the items on his bucket list, but was waiting on the leaves to turn before taking his hot air balloon ride. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, and spending time at North Fork Cabin. He enjoyed time with family and friends and his greatest joy was the time he spent with his grandkids.
Visitation was Monday, October 19, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Funeral was Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Dandi the Celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Shelbina with Military Rites at the graveside by the Shelbina American Legion.
Memorials were suggested to the Memorial River Hospice in Macon, Helping Hand of Clarence and the American Cancer Society.
