Son of the late, Ira Kahn, of France, and Marie Louise (Clayburgh) Kahn, of California. Brother of the late Sidney P. Kahn. He is survived by his widow, Anne De Leon Kahn, of San Francisco, and his son, Kenneth Edgar Kahn, and daughter, Marjorie Ann Reed. He received his B.S. from Stanford University in 1925. Then attended Harvard Graduate School of Business. He was associated with the investment house J. Barth and Company, a firm founded by his great uncle. At the time of his passing, he was 66 years of age, and a self employed Investment manager. Place of death was Children's Hospital, 3700 California Street, San Francisco. Last known address 1998 Broadway Street, Apt 1605, San Francisco, California. Funeral services were held at Halsted and Company, 1123 Sutter Street. Interment at Home of Peace, Colma, San Mateo, California.

Edgar M. Kahn, was also a noted Author. "Cable Car Days in San Francisco," first published by Stanford University Press in 1940, among others. As a historian he was passionate about the welfare of the California Historical Society, serving as a Trustee from 1958 o 1965. He also contributed a recorded history, documenting, "Pioneer Jewish San Francisco Stock Brokers," Volune 1, Issue #2, January 1969.
