She was born November 27, 1916, in Garden City, KS, the daughter of John Edward and Daisy Brennaman Murphy.
She married Robert Dean on May 24, 1933, at Cimmaron, KS. He died in 1970. She married Walter Schmidt in 1981 in California. He died in 1991.
Survivors include three children, Shirley Edmonson and husband John, Rochester, MN, Carolyn Haley, Columbia, and Steve Dean and wife Cindy, Murfreesboro,TN; six grandchildren, Karen Edmonson, George Edmonson, Meg Edmonson, Paul Edmonson, Michelle Haley Day, and Brad Haley; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Claribelle Long, Hutchison, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one son-in-law, Bill Haley; one brother, Elvin Murphy; and two sisters, Ioma Willkie and Merle Decker.
Mrs. Schmidt was a high school graduate and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina where she served as Altar Society president. She served on the District Council for Head Start and the Share program. She was a member of the Bridge Club, Garden Club, and Woman's Club.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 26, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina with Father Dandi Bermejo, Celebrant. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Shelbina.
Visitation preceded the funeral from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina.
Memorials may be made to Neighbors Helping Neighbors or the St. Mary's Altar Society.
