Mrs. Nannie Barley died April 15, 1983 after a lengthy illness. She was born July 7, 1903 in Dyer County, Tennessee and died at the age of 79 years in the Chickasawba Hospital in Blytheville.
Services were held Monday, April 18, at 1:00 p.m. at the German-Aumon Funeral Home with Rev. David Hart officiating.
Mrs. Barley moved to the Steele community in 1925 and was for several years a resident of the Denton-New Survey area. She spent most of her working life as a cook in local restaurants, her services always in demand by restaurant owners. She usually remained with a particular cafe, but when she did move to another, her "fans" followed her, particularly lovers of pecan pie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Clarence "Dutch" Barley, in 1968.
Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steele, with arrangements by German-Aumon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Howard Henry, Bill Cathey, John Malone, Larry Seibert, Donald Henson, and Donald Love.
