Betty Schaaf Ferman, 83, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013. A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, January 25 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W Lexington Ave., Independence. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26 at Messiah Lutheran, 613 S Main, Independence. Burial will be at Mound Grove Cemetery. Betty was born June 11, 1929 in Metz, MO, to Clyde and Irene (Baker) Yeates. She graduated from William Chrisman High school in 1947 and studied her trade at the local Secretarial Business School. Betty married husband Richard Schaaf May 19, 1949. Together, they had five children. After Richard's passing in April of 1976, Betty married husband Donald Ferman in May of 1979. She was a life long member and supporter of Messiah Lutheran Church. Betty worked for many years in the registrar's office of UMKC. She was skilled at many hobbies including ceramics, painting, crochet, knitting, quilting, and sewing. Betty bred Boston Bull Terriers. She is loved and will be missed by many. Betty is survived by sons, Raymond L. Schaaf (Cynthia) of Richmond, MO, Richard R. Schaaf (JoAnn) of Kansas City, MO; daughters, Susan Lynn Cauveren (Mike) and Anita Irene Henderson (Robert) all of Independence, MO; nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jimmy Ray Yeates; both husbands; and son, Roy Gene Schaaf. In lieu of flowers the family encourages contributions to Children's Mercy Hospital in Betty's name; 2401 Gillham Rd Kansas City, MO 64108.
