Nathan Brickman, 94, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at his residence. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 27, at Rodef Sholom Cemetery with Rabbi Gordon Fuller officiating.

Nathan was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Abe and Rebecca Charroz Brickman. He graduated from Waco High School in 1936. He and his brothers, Barney and Dave, opened Brickman's Grocery Store on Jan. 23, 1937, where he worked until volunteering for the U.S. Army Air Corp. Nathan served four years teaching airplane mechanics. After his discharge, he and his brothers opened Martha Jane Candy Factory and after a few years, they opened Brickman's Grocery. They later started Brickman's Salvage, where he worked before retiring in 1980.

Nathan married Gloria Feinstein in 1946, and they had two daughters, Beverly and Marilyn. Nathan was an active member of Temple Rodef Sholom, where he served as treasurer and president of the congregation. He was a member of Bnai Brith and was a Mason in Scottish Rite. He served as a consultant on the board of Score since 1986. Nathan served as secretary/treasurer of the Retail Grocers Association of Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; daughters, Beverly Hicks and husband, Larry, and Marilyn Nachman and husband, George; grandchildren, Hadley and Mark Quagliarello, Yale and Senem Hicks, Kellye Hicks, and Blake Rawdin and Brooke Rawdin; great-grandchildren, Avery and Olivia Quagliarello; sister-in-law, Bobbye Brickman; and several nieces and nephews.
