Emma L. Bailey was born around 1856 in Pennsylvania to Gordon B. Bailey and Minerva Brown.

At the stated age of 19 years, she and Reuben Wilmont Barber were married on 06 May 1875 in Douglas County, Nebraska. Reuben was born around 1851-52 at Briar Hill, New York to Charles D. Barber (b NY) and Rachel Washburn (b NY).

Emma passed a little more than 2 years after their marriage at the declared age of 22 years. At the time of the 1880 census, Reuben, as R.W. Barber, was widowed and residing in Platte Valley, Douglas, Nebraska. His stated employment was General Merchant.

At this time he was sharing a residence with his sister, Electa A Purchase , # 90367604 (b ca 1845 in NY) and her husband, M N E Purchase (b ca 1830 in NY).

Reuben (again as R.W. Barber) next married Adella (Adelle) A. Clark on 17 November 1880 at Douglas County, Nebraska. Adelle was born around 1858 in Indiana, her father and mother having been born in Indiana and Virginia respectively.

Mrs. Electa A. Purchase; 60; and Stebbins A. Teal; 70; were married in August of 1902 in Douglas County, Nebraska.

By 1900, Reuben and Adelle were residing in San Diego County, California. Rueben appeared in the Great Registers there in 1896, and Adelle is enumerated in the 1900 census in San Diego, San Diego, California with the designation of Partner in what appears to be a rooming house or hotel.

Reuben did not appear with his wife in the 1900 census, but in 1910, the couple was residing in Campo, San Diego, California as the sole residents of their home.

Reuben passed away in December 31, 1915 in location currently unknown. Rueben's widow, Adelle, was a boarder at the home of Reuben's now widowed sister, Electa A Teal. Electa owned a home in Waterloo, Douglas, Nebraska. Also sharing the residence was another boarder, Cara D Clark, and a servant, Nancy Morris.
