John Jackson Lloyd was born on a farm near Mallow, Ireland, Nov. 17, 1840 and died at his home near Shullsburg, Wis., Feb. 13, 1922 after an illness of fourteen months of bronchitis, aged eighty one years and three months. He came to America in 1858, residing in Shullsburg until 1862, when he went to California. He spent four years in the gold fields of California and Nevada, coming back to Shullsburg in 1867.
In the fall of 1869 he went to Ireland to visit his parents returning to Shullsburg in the spring of 1870. On June 10, 1873 he was united in marriage with Marietta Glines, who lives to mourn his loss. In 1875 he returned the second time to visit his old home in Ireland and again in 1885 he made the third trip back to the dear ones accompanied this time by his wife.
He was a kind and affectionate son, and a tender, loving husband. He was a quiet man enjoying his quiet home life, spending his later years in the little home he had made, surrounded by the trees he had planted with his own hands, and cared for by his devoted wife till the end. He was of a cheerful disposition always looking on the bright side of life. He bore his affliction of such long duration with patience and Christian resignation and was ready when the summons came, passing away peacefully fortified by the last rites of the church he loved.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning, Feb. 16th at nine o'clock from St. Matthews church, with Requiem High Mass being sung by Rev. Fr. Croke.
