Mrs. Maria Brooks, the old lady whose
death we note to-day, was a Revolutionary
heroine, and one of the most remarkable"
women in this vicinity. • From choice, and
the habit of active work, bred in her by
the hardship of early life, she has been industrious
and astonishingly active up to
the last few months of her life. Within the
past year, the writer of this has seen her
carry in water, and less than two years ago,
when past 90 years of age, she carried armfuls
of wood from a back yard, up a pair of stairs to
