Rosalee Brown Jessen, age 74, died peacefully Jan. 16, 2013, at home in Altonah.

She was born May 6, 1938, in Roosevelt to Raymond Sampson and Elizabeth Anderton Brown, and raised in Montwell.

Rosalee was a 1956 graduate of Union High School, after which she worked as a telephone operator in Roosevelt.

She married Robert Gary Jessen, April 5, 1957, in Montwell. Their marriage was solemnized in the Vernal LDS Temple on July 10, 1999.

Gary and Rosalee have been lifelong residents of Altonah, where they operated a cattle ranch and raised four children.

Rosalee was a thoughtful, intelligent, compassionate, ambitious and gregarious woman who never met a stranger, and loved everyone she met. She was an abundantly talented homemaker with a remarkable ability to make everyone who came through her door feel like family. She always gave freely and unselfishly of her gifts and talents, and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Throughout most of her life, Rosalee was involved civically, and once ran for Duchesne County Commissioner. She was a lifelong Democrat and served for many years as the chairperson of the Duchesne County Democratic Party and later as President of the Utah Royalty Owners Association.
She was a member of the award-winning ladies horse riding club, the Altamont Saddlettes, and served for a time as the club president.

She had a natural gift of conversation, and a unique ability to engage and draw others to her.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she fulfilled many callings, including Ward Relief Society President. She loved genealogy and had an amazing ability to retain and recall a seemingly endless amount of family history detail. She was enormously proud of her family, and loved them each individually, including dozens of extended family members.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Jessen, Altonah; children and grandchildren, Jesse Ree (Brent) Walker, Will, Courtney and Chase, Mountain Home; Beckey Lee (Shawn) McConkie, Meagher and Elizabeth, Arcadia; Wade Ray (Corey) Jessen, Nashville, Tenn.; and Gina Marie (Chad) Stevenson, Clint, Sharrie and Kane Altonah; 19 great grandchildren and one due in February, and dozens of extended family members. She is also survived by her brother, J. Brent (Boneta) Brown, Jensen; sister, Carol Jane (Roy) Shivers, Henderson, Nev.; and sister-in-law, Dawn Brown, Cedarview.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Beth Brown, brother, Fred R. Brown, sister, Helen Brown Crosbie.

Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at the Moon Lake LDS Chapel.

Burial in the Mountain Home/Boneta Cemetery.
