Shaw was a state bank commissioner from 1927 until 1933, first being appointed by Governor Dan Moody and then by Governor Ross Sterling. While living in Dallas for three years, he organized the Home Owners Loan Corp. for the State of Texas in 1933. He was a former officer in the City National Bank of Taylor before moving to Austin and was a former president of the Sons of the Republic of Texas.
A member of the Episcopal Church, Shaw died October 19, 1969, in Austin, Texas.
