Alex Mies was born, resided and attended Cooper Union in Brooklyn, NY. After his marriage to Grace Schoeppner in 1918, The couple moved to California.
Alex's early working career was as a machinist, Tool & Die Maker and Inventor and was essentially self taught in Science, Mathematics and Electronics.
Alex was a principle partner at Modern Die And Stamping Co., Los Angeles, CA that produced the Nichol Velvet Shaver, one of the first electric shavers to be marketed. Alex was also a principle partner at De La Garde Camera Corp., Los Angeles, CA and Mies & Enders Engineering, Pasadena, CA
