Clyde W. Newberry, 85, of Pittsburg, died at 2:06 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home at Frontenac, Kan.

Mr. Newberry was born Feb. 6, 1927, at Columbus, Kan., the son of Harrison Benjamin and Jane Jennie Hodgson Newberry.

Clyde was a retired janitor at Lakeside Elementary School.

He was raised in Columbus and attended Columbus schools.
He lived in Ft. Payne, Ala., before moving to Pittsburg in 1978.

He loved fishing and camping.

He married Ella Rose Hilton in 1950. She preceded him in death. He later married Mary A. Sanders on Jan. 2, 1953, in Columbus, Kan., and had celebrated 60 years of marriage.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Mary at Frontenac; two daughters, Kathy Majyor of Independence, Mo., and Jane Vaughters of Sugar Creek, Mo.; a son, David Newberry, of Pittsburg; three step-daughters, Donna Wilson of Arma, JoAnn Murariu of Jasper, Mo., and Carla Scholes of Girard; 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with the Rev. Bob Cuthbertson officiating. Burial will be at the Edgmand Cemetery in rural Columbus. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedene Chapel. The casket will remain closed. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
