Lucy A. Stoops, who passed away here July 21 at the age of 91 years, was the daughter of John and Rebecca LaFuze. She was born at Liberty. Ind., Jan. 2, 1852, and was united in marriage to John G. Eaton on Dec. 25, '1870. to this union were born three children. Mrs. Maud I. Burtenshaw of Lebanon. Claude I. Eaton of Stockton, Calif., and Mrs. Analida Mitchell of Garden Grove, Calif.
Shortly, after their marriage they moved to Nebraska, and endured all the privations of the early pioneers. She joined the Methodist church at McCook, Neb., and was a charter member of the Ladies' Aid society of that place.
In about the year 1887 they came to Lebanon and united with the Methodist church here. She was the- last surviving charter member of the Ladies aid of the Lebanon Methodist church.
In 1893 Mr. Eaton's health failed and they moved to Garden Grove, Calif., where Mr. Eaton passed away July 1. 1895. On September 1, 1903 Mrs. Eaton was married to W. L. Simpson of Lebanon, who died Aug. 4, 1905. Then on Oct. 9, 1907, Mrs. Simpson married to Richard J. Stoops of Brookfield, Ind., who passed away Feb 3, 1922.
During her life she was always active in all of the affairs of the church as well as the city. She is survived by 3 children, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services were held Monday, July 28. at 2 p. m., at the Harry C. Howe funeral home, with Rev. Ralph Kleen officiating. The body will be shipped to Santa Ana, Calif., for interment.
