Ethel B. Bratesman, 76, of Hardig Brook Village, Centerville Road, a 1929 graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, and a painter and sculptor in the Rockport-Gloucester area for many years before retiring, died Tuesday at Kent County Memorial Hospital after a two-month illness. She was the widow of Stuart Bratesman.
While living in Rockport from 1943 to 1978, Mrs. Bratesman was active in civic affairs as well as the art colony. She was a member of the Rockport Art Association and former director of the annual Christmas pageant.
A daughter of the late Guy M. and Elizabeth (Bennett) Roberts, she was born in Pawtucket and retained membership in Park Place Congregational Church there.
Her sister, Alice R. Arnold of Warwick, is the only immediate survivor.
The funeral service and burial will be private.
