Wilda was born November 23 1861 in Hillsboro, Highland County, OH, fourth of the five children of Thomas and Ella (Armstrong) Powell. She married Lewis Henry Hampton of Clinton County, OH on December 8 1884. The couple had two daughters, Fay and Catherine. By 1895, Wilda found herself the sole support of herself and her children, and moved in with her widowed mother, working in a nearby factory to support the family.
After her mother's death in 1899, Wilda moved with her children to Columbus, Franklin County, OH and supported the family as a seamstress. After her daughters married, Wilda moved in with her older daughter and her family, but continued to support herself as a seamstress. She died on August 21, 1934 and was buried in the family lot in Greenfield Cemetery.
