Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, Gadsden, for Eleanor King Johns, who passed away Jan. 19, 2013, at the age of 92. The Rev. David Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler will be in charge of services. Mrs. Johns was a devout Christian, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gadsden. She also was a very patriotic person, a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, past president; Daughters of the American Revolution, James Gadsden Chapter, past Regent; organizing Regent of the Coosa River Chapter, Glencoe, Ala.; State Program Chairperson Alabama DAR and State Organizing Secretary, Organizing President of Michael King Chapter of the Colonial Dames of XVII Century, Gadsden; Daughters of Colonial Wars, State President; Member of the Magna Charter Dames; member of the Colony of the Crown through her lineage to the Emperor Charlemagne; organized the Alabama Cameo Society DAR, Past President; Past Matron, Queen City Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and member of Women's Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars. Served on the Endowment Committee for the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School and was also a member of the Etowah County Historical Society and the Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Argyle King and Lila Baker King; husband, Oscar Hilton Wiggins who died 1953; daughter, Gary Jean Cox; brothers, Robert H. King and John A King; and stepson, Thomas Lane Johns. She was the loving wife of Doyal Abell Johns, who died in 2003 after 45 years of marriage. Survivors are listed in the publication in The Gadsden Times January 21, 2013.
