WARSAW, Mo. -- Charles E. ;#34;Gene;#34; Clardy, 74, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at his home in Warsaw.

He was born Jan. 30, 1926, to Elbert S. and Josa Blanche (Scoles) Clardy in Grove, Okla.

He married Patty Jo Musteen Sept. 19, 1945, in Rogers, Ark. She survives.

He moved to Rogers with his family in 1939, when the Grand Lake and Dam were built in Grove.

He and his wife moved to Wichita in 1952, and later to Great Bend. They lived in Liberal from 1958 to 1977.

He was employed by Ideal Food Stores in Liberal for nearly 20 years.

In January of 1977, he and his wife moved to Warsaw. In 1981, he started building the Shawnee Bend Boat Storage business, which he and his wife operated until Sept. 15, 2000.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Aug. 1, 1944, and served during World War II. He was discharged in 1945 as a disabled veteran. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.

He was also a member of the Warsaw Church of the Nazarene.

He was a chartered member of the Truman Lake Area Association, developed in 1981, having served as president for one year. He attended boat shows nearly every year to help promote the lake area.

Other survivors include his father and step-mother, Elbert S. and Janie Clardy, Rogers; three sons, Charles Steven Clardy, Edwards, Mo., Edward Ray Clardy and Kenneth Joe Clardy, both of Sedalia, Mo.; two daughters, Lana Jean Smith, Hutchinson, and Tressa Lou Gilmore, Lee's Summit, Mo.; three brothers, Donald Dean Clardy, Rogers, James Elbert Clardy, Owasso, Okla., and Robert Darrell Clardy, Fayetteville, Ark.; four sisters, Joann Thompson, Panama City, Fla., Cleta Glenn, Dallas, Dorotha Webb, Pea Ridge, Ark., and Linda Galyen, Garfield, Ark.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1981; and one brother, Ronald Clardy in 1992.

* Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Warsaw Church of the Nazarene in Warsaw with the Revs. Don Daniel, Paul Lloyd and Bonnie Rice presiding.

Burial will be at the Shawnee Cemetery in Warsaw.

Family visitation is from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1981; and one brother, Ronald Clardy in 1992.
