James A. Evans, 89, of Gifford, Illinois, passed away at 7:53 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 17, 2013) at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Illinois.

He was born Feb. 14, 1923 in Cool Springs Township, N.C. to James A. and Alice Higgins Evans. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Judy (Tom) Gordon; one son, Jim Evans; three grandchildren, Cody (Rebecca) Evans, Jeff (Tania) Goldenstein and Alana (Dave) Stagnolia; six great-grandchildren; his companion, Laverne Hansen; her daughter, Karen Fawcett and grandchildren, Jackie Fawcett and Bobby Fawcett.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
