----
From La Porte Weekly Union newspaper Nov 4 1863
A Bloody Tragedy
Occurred on Sunday last, (25th of October,) near Walton in this county. We learn the following particulars; George and Abraham Lucas, went to the house of George Knight to arrest Byron Knight, a deserter from the army. On arriving at the house, they found Byron Knight, who on being informed of their business, said he would go with them. In a few minutes, however, his brother George Knight arrived at the house from church. Byron then told his brother the object of the visit of the Lucas brothers. His brother enquired what he intended to do, in reply he said he would be dead if he would go, then fired two shots, with a revolver at Abraham Lucas, one passing through his coat collar, whereupon George Lucas drew a revolver and fired at Bryon Knight, the deserter. George Knight immediately seized a rifle in the house and fired at George Lucas severely wounding him in the side. By this time Abraham Lucas commenced firing also and during the melee the deserter was killed and his brohter mortally wounded, who died in about thirty six hours afterwards.
We learn since writing the above that several efforts to arrest Knight (the deserter) had previously been made without sucess. --Logansport Journal.
