The daughter of George Herman Baecht and Charlotte M. "Lottie" Wieneke, Shirley lost her mother at a very young age. George Baecht then married Shirley's step-mother, Frieda M. Schulz, in 1936.

Shirley married Marvin Henry Caselton, Sr. on 24 Feb 1951 in Brussels, Calhoun County, Illinois. They were the parents of 9 children.

Shirley was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. She belonged to the Alton American Legion, VFW Post 1308 and was a life-time member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary.

At the time of her death at St. Anthony's Hospital, Shirley was 81 years, 7 months and 6 days old.

She was survived by 5 daughters and 2 sons-in-law: Sherry Ventimiglia of East Alton; (Living) Amburg of Alton, Illinois; (Living) Martin of Bethalto, Illinois; (Living) Douglas and her husband of Brighton, Illinois; and (Living) Stone and her husband of Dow, Illinois. She was also survived by 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law: Marvin H. Caselton, Jr. and his wife of Brighton; (Living) Caselton and his wife of Sawyerville, Illinois; Michael J. Caselton and his wife of Berthoud, Colorado; and (Living) Caselton of Alton, Illinois.

In addition, Shirley was survived by 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 half-sisters and their spouses; 2 half-brothers and their spouses; and a very special friend, (Living) Weishaar, of Chicago, Illinois.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents and step-mother; and 1 sister, Geneva Jacobs.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on 20 Jan 2013 at the Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, Illinois. A Mass of Christian burial was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Shirley was buried next to her husband, Marvin, who passed away in 1991.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Children: 5 daughters, 4 sons.
