DICKINSON—Funeral services for Joe Ashford, 61. of 2811 Ave. C. will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Dickinson, the Rev. Edward Finley officiating.
Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Dickinson under the direction of Mainland Funeral Home in La Marque.
Mr. Ashford died Saturday after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 16, 1914 in Branchville, Tex.
Survivors include his widow, Lala Mae Ashford of Dickinson; two sons, James Arthur Ashford of Dickinson and John Thomas Davis of Tampa,Fla.; two daughters, Essie Reed and Shirley Thomas, both of Dickinson; two brothers, Arquilla Ashford of Branchville and John Henry Ashford of Dickinson; four sisters, Mrs. Irene Davis of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Margaret Harlan of Houston. Mrs. Ruby Hobgood of La Marque and Ruth Mae Ashford of Hobbs, N.M.; a grandchild; three great grandchildren; a nephew; and a host of nieces and other relatives.
A wake service was held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
