Structural engineer.

Goldsmith graduated from Caltech, where he was a scholarship recipient and football quarterback. During World War II, he worked as an aeronautical engineer. After the war, he was a structural engineer on many structures, including the Hollywood Bowl.

Upon his retirement, Morris was appointed to the L.A. Building Commission by Mayor Tom Bradley.

He was the father of Jerry Goldsmith, composer and conductor, who won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for "The Omen" (1976).
