Mildred married George H. Crane in 1936 and together they grew potatoes and beans on their farms in Exeter. When they retired in 1961, their sons, Neil and Vern, assumed management of the farms, which are still in production today. After their retirement, Mildred and George enjoyed their winter home in Sarasota, Fla., and Mildred continued to live there after George died in 1982 until 2011 when she moved to Main Street West, Dover-Foxcroft. Mildred loved to read and she especially enjoyed knitting afghans for all her families. She held the Boston Cane for Exeter since 1999.
Mildred is survived by two sons, Neil and his wife, Lois, of Nokomis, Fla., and Dexter, and Vernon and his wife, Donna, of Nokomis, Fla., and Dexter; a daughter, Charlene Crane Cooney of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Margaret Connors and Geraldine Henkener; a brother, Gardiner Reed; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers.
A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring in the family lot at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. (Bangor Daily News posted 1/18/2013)
