WILLIAMSPORT — Luther "Bud" Doebler, 93, of 1900-A Ravine Road, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011, at the Williamsport Home.

He was born at home on July 13, 1918, in New Berlin, the second son of the late Charles L. and Anna R. Doebler. His first wife, the former Erma Troxell, of Middleburg, died in 1969. He then married Jane Gortner, of Williamsport, who died in 2007 after 36 years of a happy marriage.

Bud was a 1937 graduate of Lewisburg High School and attended Susquehanna University. He served in the Navy Seabees and was a veteran of World War II. He served aboard the USS Hector in the Pacific Theater as a petty officer and was awarded many Pacific Theater ribbons.

Bud was in the plumbing and heating business in New Berlin for several years and then worked as a salesman for Raub Supply Co., Williamsport. He was later employed as a manufacturing representative for Wolverine Brass Works, of Grand Rapids, Mich., from where he retired in 1980 as a district manager.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Williamsport, and a member of Blue Lodge 106, F&AM, Williamsport, the Caldwell Consistory of the Valley of Bloomsburg and Irem Temple Shrine, Wilkes-Barre, where he served on the director's staff for 40 years, holding the position of president for several years. He was a life member of the New Berlin American Legion, where he was the last surviving founder of that Legion. He also was a member of other local organizations.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Al Battisti, of Hollywood, Calif., Barbara and David Beeson, of Ten Mile, Tenn., and Sandra and Clayton Newcomer, of Watsontown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles G. Doebler, of Sunbury, and a great-grandson, Noah R. Worthy.

Friends will be received from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, followed by the funeral at 1:30 with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Interment will be in New Berlin Cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Berlin American Legion.
