Rupert Potter, father of famous author Beatrix Potter, was born in 1832 at Manchester, Lancashire, England, the son of Edmund Potter and Jessie Crompton. He was a Unitarian, a practicing barrister and an amateur photographer. He married Helen Leech, daughter of John Leech and Jane Ashton, in 1863 at Stockport, Cheshire, England. He died in 1914.
