Obituary - Word was received here Thursday that Capt. Furman N. Horton had died suddenly that morning in Daytona, Fla., where he and Mrs. Horton had a cottage for the winter. Capt. Horton had been in ill health for some time, but they had made reservations to start for home on Friday.
Capt. Horton was born in Baiting Hollow 75 years ago, but during his infancy his parents died, after which he lived for twelve years with his uncle, the late Westle Edwards, at Stony Brook. For a number of years he followed the water and was for some time in command of Park & Tilford's yacht Whitby, retiring 30 years ago, since which time he has resided here. He married three times, his first wife being Miss Elizabeth Oakes, of Stony Brook, by whom he had four children. His second wife, was Miss Alida Roe, of Patchogue, all of whom are dead. He is survived by his third wife, nee Miss Annie Davis, formerly of Port Washington, and one daughter, Mrs. Cornelius Silborn, of this village.
Capt. Horton was one of the best known and highly respected citizens of this place, and his demise will cause a shock and deep feeling of sorrow to his many friends. The remains will reach here this Saturday night.
Funeral services will be held at the residence here Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, Rev. Ivan G. Martin, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating.
