George Bates Underwood is the son of Charles Frederick Underwood and Martha Ann Wilson. Family story about Charles, he was a gambler. Am told he once owned a coal mine and lost it in a card game. Supposedly Charles was in Linton, Indiana playing cards at a table. A Charlie Rutherford (spelling?) accused Charles of cheating, stood up and shot and killed him.
