She was the daughter of John and Mary Dunham. She was not the daughter of Dorothy Day.
Her parents were apparently married before 2 June 1640.
At the Quarter Court held at Boston on 2 June 1640, John Dunham was fined 20 shillings for getting his wife pregnant before they were married: “John Downham for getting his wife wth child before marriage was fined 20ss” [Records of the Court of Assistants, Vol. 2, p. 94; Records of the Massachusetts Bay, Vol. 1, p. 297].
John Dunham, her father, was christened 19 Feb. 1614/15 at St. Mary, Henlow, Bedfordshire, England. See The Great Migration, Vol. 1, p. 602.
John Dunham, her father, died 6 Apr. 1692 at Plymouth. His will is dated 2 Feb. 1691/92 and was proved 16 Apr. 1692.
In his will, John Dunham left a bequest to "wife Mary Dunham and to my Daughter Mercy Dunham my house I now dwellin" [MD, Vol. 31, p. 160]. He names "my wife & Daughter Mercy to be Executrixes" [MD, Vol. 31, p. 160]. He bequeathed in his will one shilling to James Hamlin and one shilling to his daughter, Mary Hamlin: To "my son James Hamlin one shilling and to my daughter Mary his wife one shilling" [MD, Vol. 31, p. 160].
On 16 April 1692, "An inventory of the estate of John Dunham Senr late of Plimouth" was taken by Ephraim Morton, Jr. and Thomas Faunce [MD, Vol. 31, p. 160]. "Mary Dunham Relict widdow of John Dunham" made oath to the inventory on the same day [MD, Vol. 31, p. 160].
Mary Dunham, her mother, died 20 Mar. 1698/99 at Plymouth.
The location of the graves of her parents, John and Mary Dunham, is unknown.
