George A. Deakyne
George A. Deakyne, prominent in business and political circles in Caroline County for 40 years, died Wednesday, June 8, after a lingering illness of several months. He had been identified with the county's business as deputy treasurer, treasurer, deputy clerk and clerk of the Circuit Court. While in the insurance business for a number of years he became widely known over the Eastern Shore.
Mr. Deakyne was born near Smyrna, Del., in 1851 and came to Denton shortly after he left school. In 1883, he married Miss Clara Horsey who, with one son, Stanley L. Deakyne, survives.
Funeral services will be held at the home this (Saturday) morning at 11 o'clock, Rev Francis W. Kirwan, officiating, and burial will be in the Denton Cemetery. Members of the Bar will attend the services as honorary pall-bearers; active pall-bearers selected are, Messrs. H.R. Lewis, T. Piny Fisher, J. Owens Knotts, L. B. Towers, C. Leslie Walls, and T. Frank Seward.
