Obituary: Nicholas Borden 1820-1895

Nicholas Borden, the subject of this sketch, was born Aug. 23. 1820, and died Feb. 18, 1895, aged 74 years, 5 months and 25 days. He was married to Mary Ruble in 1852. His beloved wife died Jan. 16, 1891, which was a very severe stroke to him. While his two daughters tried to make home pleasant to him, yet, he realized the sad truth that there was a vacancy in his home which never could be filled. He was a member of the Christian Church, and adorned his profession, and no doubt, died in the triumph of a Christian religion. He was an ex-soldier, having belonged to Co. G , 2d Ohio Volunteer Heavy Artillery. He was a member of Jno. Ball Post, G. A. R., and was very much interested in its success. The members of his Post, also of Lewis Bunn Post, No. 724, G. A. R , united in attending the funeral, along with a large concourse of friends. The Chaplain of Lewis Bunn Post, Rev. J. M. Roberts, preaching the funeral sermon. Comrade Borden was a man of warm and generous feelings. His hand was ever ready to help the needy and destitute. He will ever be remembered as a kind neighbor and an upright citizen. While he had been complaining for some days, his death was. sudden. As his comrades laid him away, it was with sadness, as it was a reminder to them how fast they too were passing away to join the silent majority in the great beyond. Two sons and two daughters mourn their great loss. May God's blessing rest upon them, and, when life's warfare is over, grant that they be reunited in heaven.

A Comrade
