Helen B. Sobanski, age 94, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Julius E. Sobanski for 61 years, died on Sunday (November 27, 2011).

Helen was born in Hartford on December 21, 1916 to the late Stanley and Josephine Backiel Blasko and was a Milford resident for over 60 years. She was the oldest of 10 children and worked hard throughout her childhood to take care of her family.

She was an active parishioner of St Ann's Parish since 1942. Helen served as the President of the Ladies Guild, was a lector, a member of the choir and of the parish council. She was in charge of the church flowers for many years and helped with the Mighty Mite Ministry. She was also a member of the St Ann's 50+ club and of the Milford Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed to sing as a soprano in the Starduster's singing group and was a dancer in many of the senior citizen performances in town. Helen was a 'fashionista' in her day and loved to travel the world with her husband.

Survivors include her son, James M. Sobanski (Virginia) of Milford; three daughters, Jeanne S. Yurch of Waterbury, Marianne T. Cassavechia (Paul) of Canton, and Jo-Anne S. Lucia (Glenn) of Shelton; two sisters, Bertha Wnuk and Florence Foster, eight grandchildren, Jenifer Basroon (Andy) and Dana Harre (Jim), Amy Mansfield (Jeff), John Jr. and Michael Yurch, Sean Cassavechia, Lauren and Julianne Lucia; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sobanski is pre-deceased by her husband, Julius Sobanski and by her seven siblings; Henry, Stanley, John, Chester, Edward, Albert and Stella Blasko.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning DIRECTLY in St. Ann Church, Milford, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in The Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fisher Center Foundation for Alzheimer's, One Intrepid Square, W. 46th St and 12th Ave, NY,NY 10036 in Mrs. Sobanski's memory.
