Bernice Gentry Newman, 89, died March 18 at Azalealand Nursing Home. She was born in Dublin, Texas, and lived in Savannah 40 years. She retired after 30 years as a bookkeeper with Newman Enterprises. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and a former president of Women in Construction (W.I.C.). Survivors include her nieces, Sandra H. Sanders and June Sasser, both of Savannah; stepson, Aaron Newman, Jr., of Savannah; a stepdaughter, Kathryn Oates of Fortson; and several great-nieces and nephews. Graveside service Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park East. Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
