Milton Edwin "Ed" Rogers, 86, former McCook resident, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at his home in Longmont, Colo.
A celebration of life service will be held Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at Herrmann Funeral Home, 607 Norris Ave, McCook, Neb. Viewing will be the evening before, Jan. 16, from 4 to 7 pm., also at Herrmann Funeral Home.
Ed was born Jan. 25, 1926 in McCook to Clarence and Sylvia Rogers. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 78th Lightning Division, 309th Infantry, "E" (Easy) Company fighting in Ger-many and Belgium.
After the war, he returned to McCook where he made a life with his family, working as a painting contractor until moving his family and business to Scottsbluff. Ed remained in Scottsbluff continuing his commercial and residential painting business until his retirement in 1999. Although officially retired, he also worked in the plant services department at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Ky., having lived there, Newport, Ark. and Longmont, Colo. after moving from the Nebraska Panhandle.
In addition to his work he Ed was a loving husband and family man, raising a fine, large family. He was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist church in the communities in which he resided. Ed worked tirelessly as a Good Samaritan in his church, his children's schools and his community. Never having met a stranger, everyone was a friend. His boundless sense of humor was as much a part of him as his family and a paintbrush were, walking in faith, showing love and always seeing the good in people. Ed loved to tend to his garden and sing, being instrumental in bringing the Sugar Valley Singers Barbershop Chorus to Scottsbluff, and was a charter member.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Heidi of Longmont, Colo.; daughters, Sharon Engel and husband Richard, Marsha Lukasik and husband Tom, Stephanie Martin, Heidi Melton and husband David; sons, John Rogers and wife Joyce, Michael Rogers and wife Kelly, Jeff Rogers and wife Cindy; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Monte Rogers and sister, JoAnn Patrick; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Gloria Rogers and Marilyn Bennett; and brother, Clarence (Bud) Rogers.
