Walter was the son of William and Mary Jane (Larrick) Dunlap, Jr. Walter lived and worked in Keyser, Mineral Co. WV. He was a car inspector for the B&O Railroad. He was married twice, his first wife was Elia Mae Spaid, 1870-1911, daughter of John and Margaret (Brill) Spaid. Elia was twice married and twice widowed before she married Walter, her previous husbands had been Carter Kelso and Lemon Brill. Walter and Elia had two children: Violet Evelona Dunlap, 1900-____, married Arthur Clayton Pugh, 1897-_____ and William Ferdinand Dunlap, 1908-_____, married Alma Snyder, 1912-____. Elia had no children by her earlier marriages. After Elia died in 1911, Walter married in 1913 to Anna Lee "Annie" Elliott, 1876-1963, daughter of John and Sarah (Foreman) Elliott.
