Shadrack Freeland Greear was the son of James Noah (1790-1870) and Mary Elizabeth Bonham Greear (1792-1850). According to information posted on Rootsweb.com, he was born in what is now Franklin County, Virginia. Shadrack spelled his last name Greear although many of his family spelled it Greer/Greere.

Shadrack married (1) Mary Ann Moore, the daughter of Thomas and Frances Stallard Moore, (2) Nancy Ann Moore,and (3)Eliza Horne, the daughter of Nicholas (Sr) and Nancy Virginia Donahue Horne ca 1879.

Shadrack served in the Scott County Milita during The War Between the States.
