Going Home services for Suzanne Black, 61, of Longview will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Mobberly Baptist Church with Dr. Laney Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Park's Chapel Mausoleum.
She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2002 after a faith-filled battle won against cancer.
Suzanne was born on January 14, 1941 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to James Joffery McCarty and Christene McCarty Bostick.
She was raised in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1959.
She was married in 1963 and had one daughter, Gwen Black of Longview. After Suzanne divorced in 1973, she began attending Mobberly Baptist Church where she accepted the Lord as her personal savior. As a member of Mobberly, she enjoyed singing in the Adult Choir for many years, and she also taught Sunday School. She has attended First Assembly of God Church in recent years.
Suzanne lived a life of true commitment to serving the Lord and raising her only child as a single parent.
Suzanne worked in the banking business for over 40 years. She worked at Longview National, American Bank, First Federal Savings and Loan, and has been employed by Longview Bank and Trust for the past 24 years. She genuinely cared about her customers and took every opportunity to serve others and share her love for the Lord. Suzanne was blessed with the honor of being named Longview Bank and Trust's Employee of the year in 1999.
Through the years Suzanne was involved with several community organizations. She was a member of the charitable sorority Iota Phi for many years.
In addition, was been active in local political campaigns and served as precinct chairman. She served on the Board of Women's Aglow, a non-denominational women's ministry for 10 years. Yard work, reading her Bible, and sharing her love for God with all who knew her brought her great joy!
Suzanne is survived by one daughter, Gwen Black of Longview; her mother, Christene Bostick of Longview; two brothers, Craig Johnston of Beaumont, Texas; and sister-in-law, Denise Johnston of Longview; and Billy Jack Johnston and wife Sharon of Brenham, Texas; one sister Harriet Wellman of Longview; aunt Aggie Robinson of Fairhope, AL.; cousin, Jim Riley and wife Sylvia of Columbia, MD.; cousin, Margie Lawson of Mt. Pleasant, TX.; cousins-in-law, Gary and Faye Bardwell of Longview; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Suzanne was blessed and so thankful for many precious friends that became like family, Charles and Wanda Dance and Brittany, Randy and Donna Dickson, Cotton and Rhonda Davis, Carol Bolls, Beverly Wright, Delores McDowell and many others too numerous to list, including her Longview Bank and Trust family.
Suzanne also had ''daughters of the heart'': Stacy Belt, Patty Best, Sharon Lott and Rhonda Muckleroy whom she dearly loved and graciously shared the wisdom God had blessed her with.
Suzanne's courage, sweet spirit, and faith in the One True God was a mighty heritage given to her daughter and all who knew her! Indeed she was greatly used by the Lord!
