He married Yula Orlena Hedges April 5, 1953 Kansas City, Jackson, MO. She died in October, 1973. He married Doris Lorraine Fizer Long Zellmer Aug. 18, 1974 Butler, Bates, MO. She died March 2, 2012. He was born to the parents of Wilbur Franklin & Alice Irene (Hodges) Ellis.

Jim is survived by 2 daughters, Pamela Sue Dodds (Carroll) and Paula Kay Morgan (Lynn) of Butler, MO; 2 sdtepdaughters, Patricvia Gail Higgins (Jerry) of Golden CO, and Diana Lynn Lyman of Springfield, MO; 3 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Yula Ellis; his second wife, Doris Ellis; one sister, Billie Giffin; and granddaughter Hannah Morgan in 1982.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, MO. Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11 a.m. at Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, MO. Contributions to Ohio Street United Methodist Church, Heartland Hospice, American Cancer Society ot American Heart Association.
