WOMAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT

UNIONVALE, Nov. 13 – Mrs. Earl Lee Bates, 33, died in the Salem Deaconess hospital Monday after being injured Saturday morning when the family automobile was struck by a trailer which became unfastened from a car driven by O.J. Watts, Route 1, Salem. Its tongue was thrust through the automobile, injuring Mr. Bates.

Her husband operates the Unionvale store.

UNIONVALE, Nov. 20 – Funeral services for Mrs. Earl Lee Bates were held at the Unionvale Evangelical United Brethren church, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert D. Bennett officiating. Interment was in the Dayton I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Mrs. Bates was born January 1, 1914, at Battle Creek, Neb. In July, 1932 she was married to Earl Lee Bates at Bassett, Neb. And came to Oregon in August of this year. She died in Salem General hospital from head injuries resulting from a trailer accident. She and her husband had operated the Unionvale store, assisted by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.C. Burnham.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bates is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Brown of Wood, S.D., Mrs. Esther Brown of White River, S.D., and Beryl Burnham of Dayton; five brothers, Chester Burnham of Newberg, Lyle Burnham of Long Valley, S.D., Leonard Burnham and James Burnham, both of Wood, S.D., and Sgt. Donald B. Burnham of Randolph Field, Texas.
