Sonny - as he was known throughout life - operated a large and progressive farm southeast of DeKalb, and just south of his brother Frank Eastbourn's farm. He was actively involved in his community's activities, his children's schools, and the DeKalb Christian Church where he was a lifelong member and leader. Sonny's memorial service was held at the DeKalb church and a memorial in his name provided the construction of a new entryway to the church sanctuary, protecting worshipers from the elements when the doors were opened.
