Ava Roop
Died Dec. 26, 2005

Ava Mae Jones Roop, of Huntsville, beloved wife, mother and sister, died Monday at Whitesburg Gardens Health Care Center. She was 77. Born in Dante, Va., and raised near Kingsport, Tenn., in a loving family of nine children, she lived in Huntsville for the last 50 years.

Ava loved trains, the mountains of Tennessee and people, especially children. She worked at Heritage Baptist Church daycare center and other child care centers in Huntsville. She also worked at J.C. Penney's in The Mall and at Wal-Mart. She was a longtime member of Lakewood Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Roop of Huntsville; son, Lee Roop of Madison; daughter, Deborah Storey of Huntsville; three sisters, Clara Wexler and Betty Davy, both of Kingsport, Tenn., and Joyce Stewart of Hendersonville, N.C.; one grandson, Andrew Roop of Madison; many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight. A graveside funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Huntsville Memory Gardens with Dr. Walter Nunn officiating. Burial will follow.

Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's research or to Lakewood Baptist Church.
