Dort Brown, age 89, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Dort was born July 16, 1922 in Subligna, GA, the son of the late Henry Clinton and Bonnie Lynn (Hamilton) Brown.
He was retired from Sears and Haney Supply Company. Dort was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII in the European Theatre.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Syble (Scoggins) Brown; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Gail Brown, Piedmont, SC, Ronnie and Pat Brown, Ricky and Cheryl Brown, all of Subligna, GA; grandchildren, Kevin Brown, Scott Brown, Autumn McDonald, Angie Law, and Rance Brown; great grandchildren, Jake Nelson, Cameron Brown, Amanda Brown, Jordan DeJesus, Nikki Brown, Carson McDonald, and Lucas McDonald.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Scoggins and Rev. Mark Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Subligna Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Scott Brown, Rance Brown, Cameron Brown, Jake Nelson, Jordan DeJesus, and Eddie Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Scoggins, Jimmy Stewart, Frank Ward, Melvin Plunkett, Ray Sutton, Mike Sutton, Roy Joe Thomas, Jimmy Walker, and Kevin Brown. Dort will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.
