John Oliver Blount, II , 78, went home to be with the Lord January 11, 2013. Born in Jacksonville to Meade and Lula Blount, he was a member of the Andrew Jackson Class of 1952 and a graduate of the University Of Florida School Of Building Construction.

He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force piloting an F-80 Shooting Star and flew the F-86 Sabre during service in Air National Guard Fighter-Bomber Squadron 159. Mr. Blount was President of Fred M. Cox, Inc., Past President of Associated General Contractors, and a member of the USO Board of Trustees. He attended First Baptist Church where he led in the Men's Ministry, the Board of Deacons, and as Chairman of the Finance and Building committees.

He loved to share his personal journey with God and a highlight on that road was a trip to Kenya and Uganda with The Christian Light Foundation. His life was a testimony of his faith and trust in the Lord and a blessing to those he touched through business, community service, and in his daily walk as a servant of his beloved Heavenly Father.

He was preceded in death by sister Marjorie Martin. He is survived by Jean Blount, his wife and sweetheart of 57 years; children, Gayl Blount, Rev. John Blount, III (Ann), and Jeffery Blount (Stacy); grandchildren Lara and Nicholas Ortiz and Michael and Stacy Blount; and sister Betty Smith ( Jim K ).

Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Monday, January 14, 2013 in the Hobson Auditorium, First Baptist Church, 517 Hogan St. with Rev. John Blount officiating. The family will receive friends and family at the church one hour prior to the service, with afternoon Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery at 2:30 pm where military honors will be rendered.
