Eugene "Dub" Barnes, 68, died Sunday in Humana Hospital, Huntsville, after a long illness.

The funeral was Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home. The Rev. Edwin Moore and Don Burkhalter officiated and burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Barnes was a native of Lincoln County. He was the son of the late Eugene S. and Carrie Fontain Moncrief Barnes. He was employed at Borden's for 17 years, was a former employee of Amana Corp., and a retired employee of the City of Fayetteville. Mr. Barnes was a member of the Beech Grove United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mabel Bean Barnes; four sons, Police Chief Tom Barnes, Joe Barnes, William Barnes, and Bobby Gene Barnes, all of Fayetteville; a step daughter, Mrs. R. L (Jean) Sullenger of Lynchburg; a brother, Jack David Barnes of Fayetteville; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
