Mr. Cook was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Dallas, Texas, and married Sharon A. Mayfield on July 30, 1994, in Midland, Texas, and he had numerous friends in the Durango area.
He worked in the Midland-Odessa area and made his permanent home in Midland in January of 1994. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Navy and received a Victory medal, American Area medal and Asiatic medal. He had served on the USS Protens, which was one of the first submarine tenders to land on Japanese soil at Yokosuka.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Southside Lodge No. 1114 in Fort Worth, Texas.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eva Lee McAdams; two brothers, George E. Cook Jr. and Robert "Bob" Bart; and one grandson, Justin Salis.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon A. Cook, of Midland; one son, Roy N. Cook Jr. of Houston; three daughters, Kelly Cook and Tracy Cook, both of Cypress, Texas, and Joyce Jacob of Plano, Texas; one stepson, Jimmy L. Williams of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Debbie Maddon, of New Braunfels, Texas; a sister, Betty Bart, of Spring, Texas; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
