Wanda Ruth Adams was the Daughter of Herman Howard Adams and Margaret Alice Dye.
Wanda married a total of four times during her life. She was married twice to Billy Keith Payne, whom she married the first time on May 3, 1963 in Jackson County, Missouri (see attached copy of Marriage License). She and Billy divorced on May 19, 1970 in Washington County, Ohio.
Wanda's second Husband was Charles Coogle whom she married on July 10, 1970 in Washington County, Ohio. That marriage was short-lived and she and Charles divorced less than a year later, on January 7, 1971 in Washington County, Ohio.
Sometime in 1971, Wanda and Billy remarried. They stayed married until December 19, 1997, when the two divorced, once again, in Washington County, Ohio.
Wanda stayed single until February 16, 2002, when she married her third Husband, my Uncle, Floyd Fritz Schmidt of Marietta, Ohio. Floyd had returned from the Irving, Texas area with his Daughter, in order to take care of his elderly Mother, Anna Edna Schmidt. Anna, I was told during a brief visit in August of 2007 with both Floyd and Wanda, was instrumental in getting the two "younger people" to marry one another. Both Wanda and Floyd helped to care for Anna until she died in 2008. As Anna's Granddaughter, I will always be thankful that Wanda was physically, spiritually, and mentally present to help Floyd during what must have been a very difficult time for him.

Wanda was a member of Souls' Harbor Baptist Church where she had been a co-leader of the Senior Saints Group, sang in the choir, was a Seedline worker, a member of R/U, and former teacher in the pre-school S.H.Y.N. class. She was also a member of the Class of 1960 50th Reunion Committee. Prior to retirement, Wanda worked at MSI for 19 years, primarily as Human Resources Director.
Wanda married Floyd Fritz Schmidt on February 16, 2002 of Marietta, Ohio. Also surviving are Wanda's children from her previous marriage to Billy K. Payne, Sr.--Tracy K. Payne and his Wife, Collen of Belpre, Ohio, Billy K. Payne and his Wife B.J., Junior Payne and his Wife Jennifer of Orange Park, Florida, Daughter Michelle Elise Antill and her Husband Terry of Bellefontaine, Ohio.
Also surviving are the following Grandchildren and Greatgrandchildren: Travis Justin Payne (Ashley), Waterford, OH; Terry Glen (T.J.) Antill, Jr., Danielle Elise Antill, and Tanner Lee Antill, Bellefontaine, OH; Tre' Austin Payne, Orange Park, FL; Christopher Lee Payne (Brooke), Marietta and great grandson, Bricen Payne of Marietta, OH. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a Step-Daughter (by Floyd Schmidt), Sherri Ann Schmidt Smith; a Grandson, Ryan Gillenwater; a Brother, John W. Adams; a Father and Mother-in-law, George Howard Schmidt and Anna Edna Miller Schmidt; and a Brother-in-Law, Gerald Wheaton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Feb. 8, 2012) at 11:00 am at the Souls' Harbor Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Hughes officiating. Internment will be in Tunnel Cemetery in Fleming Township, Washington County, Ohio.
