Norman “Fuzz” Foster, 62, went home to ride amongst God’s green pastures on July 21, 2012, at Fort Meade Medical Center from complications following a heart attack. At his request, there will be no service and he will be laid on the mountain that he loved.
Norman Wayne “Fuzz” Foster was born Jan. 1, 1950, to Harold and Judith Foster of Lewistown, Montana. He attended school in Manhattan and transferred to Ennis High School where he graduated in 1968. As a young man, Fuzz discovered his passion for animals and ranching when given the opportunity to work as summer help for Harry Brainard on his ranch. It didn’t take long for him to realize he wanted to be a rancher. Before he got started living his dream, Fuzz was drafted into the Army right out of high school and spent 16 months serving in Vietnam. While serving, he received many honors, including a Purple Heart. After returning home, Fuzz married Linda Marie Collins on November 13, 1971. Soon after marrying, they settled in Gallatin Gateway, Montana, and began a dairy farm which they ran until 1985 when they moved to Wyoming and he began working for the Jackpot Ranch. After leaving the Jackpot, Fuzz began a business building pole furniture and storage sheds. In 1994, he achieved his dream of owning his own “ranchette” on Highway 585 south of Sundance, Wyoming. His favorite place in the world was on the back of his horse in the mountains checking on his cows. Ranching is hard work, but he soaked it up every minute he could.
In 2007, Fuzz retired from ranching and moved to town which provided him more opportunity for drinking coffee and visiting with friends. He was never at a loss for a story and enjoyed being with company.
Fuzz is survived by his three children, Russell (Ashley) Foster of Columbus, Montana, Peggy (David) Bankenbush of Gillette, Wyoming, and Clint Foster of Gillette; three granddaughters, Jillian and Delaney Bankenbush and Aspen Foster; brother, Doug (Linda) Foster of Washington; nephews, Shown (Alethea) Foster and Robert Foster; great-nephew, Cody Foster and great-niece, Cora Foster. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Melvin Foster.
