Milford, or PopPop as I knew him, was a quiet, gentle man. I never heard him raise his voice. He enjoyed going out to eat, knew where every restroom in every city was located and enjoyed taking long walks and reading his newspaper. After eating, PopPop would sit with his arms folded and he'd be wiggling his false teeth around in his mouth with his tongue. My MomMom would point to him and say, "That's Chief Thunderthud". My MomMom used to say to him, "I'm going to kill you Milford!" And, my PopPop would answer back quietly, "I'll get the knife."

He was in World War II and was stationed in Germany. I have a photograph of war dead that PopPop took and wrote on the back, "seen with my own eyes". He didn't talk about being in the war and I couldn't imagine him hurting a fly.

He used to drive very slowly; on and off the accelerator, which could make a person very nauseous. He was a tall man and had lots of thick white hair and brown eyes. He had a love for baseball that I've seen in no other person. He had been to many baseball games and World Series games and saved the ticket stubs. He had books, letters, coins and other assorted items from the game of baseball as well. He loved to laugh and point at different locations that he knew as we drove by in the car. He seemed to know where every ice cream shop was too. My Mother told me he liked Hor Lacquer Beer.

I enjoyed going on walks with him, either around our block in Selden New York, when he visited, or in Stone Harbor New Jersey, when we were on vacation. There were times where I declined, and looking back now, I wish I had said 'yes' every time he asked me to go on a walk.
