Uncle Bud was my father's uncle. He was a tall slender man who loved to laugh. As a kid growing up, I loved to visit his place. He had a big farm with lots of milk cows. While my parents visited, my brother and I would go out looking for the cows and the one lone pony. We were free to wonder the pasture, just be on the look-out for the cow-pies and chicken droppings along the way. Oh, and NO chasing the cows once they were located.

Usually when the visit was over, mom had a gallon glass jar filled nearly to the brim with fresh milk. We would take it home, skim the fresh cream and use that for home-made ice cream! Oh the best! Of course we drank the milk, too.

I recently met Bud's brother-in-law, Wilma's younger brother. He told a story about when Bud and Wilma were recently married. They had an old car and needed to move from Oregon to Washington. Not everything would fit in that old car. So, being the resourceful person that Bud was, he ripped out that back seat, put all their belongings in the car and off they drove!
