Abram D. Atterbury, one of the oldest if not the oldest resident of this community died Wednesday afternoon at 1:15 o'clock, aged 71 years 1 months and 1 day. Mr. Atterbury had been sick with heart trouble for the past four months

He was born in Grayson county, Kentucky February 26, 1827. His early life was spent on a farm in his native county. He learned the blacksmith trade in Kentucky, after which in 1850 he came to Illinois locating near where Litchfield now stands. He entered a quarter section of land, which is now known as his old home place and which lies about a mile and a half northwest of this city. He lived for a while in a little log house, which for several years stood just back of D.r Colt's residence, and broke prairie sod on what is now a large part of the city of Litchfield. He entered partnership with Thomas G. Kessinger at Zanesville for a couple of years, after which they both moved to this city and became the only blacksmiths here. In 1857 he settled on his land northwest of town where he continued to reside until 12 years ago when he moved to town.

In 1853 he married Mrs. Julia Ogle of Madison County who had a son, Joseph T. Ogle, one of our present well known citizens. Deceased leaves his wife and 3 sons, Messrs George W. and Charles M of Chicago and Attorney James H. Atterbury of Mt. Vernon, but for several years a well known practitioner of this county.

The funeral services were conducted at the family residence, Thursday afternoon, Rev J H Jones officiating. A large number of friends and relatives attended the services.
